AMBASSADOR TO QATAR IS ANNOUNCED

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment by the Prime Minister Rt. Hon Perry Christie of Tony Joudi as Non- Resident Ambassador of The Bahamas to Qatar. Mr. Joudi, who is a Civil Engineer, has also been designated by the Government of The Bahamas as Commissioner General of The Bahamas’ Pavilion for Expo 2020, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The appointments take place with immediate effect. Mr. Joudi is contributing his services to the country.

Tony Joudi is President of Fast Track Construction Company and has worked on several local and international design and construction projects. Additionally, he is President of Sapphire Venture Fund, a local real estate Smart Fund listed on The Bahamas International Stock Exchange, Deputy Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a Trustee on the Bahamas Contractors Association. He served for five years on the Board of the Bahamas International Stock Exchange. He is a member of The Bahamas Professional Engineering Board and a member of The Bahamas Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Joudi came to The Bahamas from his native Lebanon after his education in the United States, where he met and lived with Bahamians who encouraged him to move to Nassau. He practiced his engineering in the early years in The Bahamas with Joseph Nathaniel Edgecombe. He became a Bahamian citizen in 2010.

Mr. Joudi is married to the former Joan Michelle Cates of Rock Sound, Eleuthera. He has a son Tony F. Joudi and a daughter Cassidy D. Joudi. He is a native Arabic speaker in addition to English. Ambassador-designate Joudi will present his credentials in Qatar, in the near future, at a date to be determined by the Governments of Qatar and The Bahamas. He has already begun his work at Commissioner General in United Arab Emirates for the Expo 2020.

Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell welcomed Mr. Joudi to the team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that he expects that there will be significant outreach to the Middle East region as a result of these appointments.
