BRIAN MOREE, QC SWORN IN AS NEW CHIEF JUSTICE

Mr. Brian Moree, was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas on Wednesday, 12 June, 2019.

Mr. Moree, held the position as Senior Partner at Mckinney, Bancroft and Hughes, Counsel and Attorneys – at – Law, New Providence. He led the litigation and dispute resolution area and the financial services and regulation area.

Brian Moree, has served in the Judiciary in various capacities since admitted to The Bahamas Bar in 1979. He has also served and worked on statutory boards, committees and commissions.

His areas of practice include: civil litigation, commercial litigation, trust and private client matters, banking and commercial law, insurance, insolvency and bankruptcy, financial services and regulation, asset recovery and fraud, and cross border cases; with regular appearance at all levels including Court of Appeal and the Privy Council.

The QC, was appointed by the Cabinet Office in accordance with Article 94 (1) of the Constitution of The Bahamas. Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition the Hon. Phillip Davis, MP, who then advised the Governor General Dame Marguerite Pindling to appoint Brian Moree, as Chief Justice of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
