CAPTAIN STEPHEN RUSSELL PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON AMBASSADOR SIDNEY COLLIE

On Tuesday, 15th May, 2018, Captain Stephen Russell, Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Sidney Collie, Ambassador of The Bahamas to the United States of America and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS), at the Embassy/Permanent Mission of The Bahamas, in Washington, D.C.

Captain Russell traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in a hemispheric conference, entitled, “Mechanisms of Action of the Inter-American Committee on Natural Disaster Reduction (IACNDR) – Interagency Coordination in the Americas”, which was hosted by the Inter-American Defense Board of the OAS, from 15th to 16th May, 2018, in the U.S. capital.

The Conference served as a forum for engagement on current issues facing the Hemisphere, particularly regarding the prevention and monitoring of natural disasters, actions undertaken by international organisations, the roles played by the Armed Forces, mechanisms of action by the IACNDR, and future concerns related to natural disasters and their mitigation.
