XVII MEETING OF NATIONAL COORDINATORS OF THE LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CELAC)
30TH- 31ST MARCH 2016, SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Hon. Frederick A. Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, led a delegation to the X Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Latin American and Caribbean Community (CELAC), 1st April 2016, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Other members of the delegation included, Mr. Freddie C. Tucker, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and National Coordinator for The Bahamas to the CELAC, Ms. Raylene L. Ferguson, Administrative Cadet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Corporal Bernard Ferguson, Aide to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. H.E. Andrés Navarro Garcia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and newly elected 2016 Pro Tempore Presidency for CELAC presided over the meeting.

The Foreign Ministers approved a Declaration on the Inclusion of CELAC Member States on a European Union List of Non-Cooperative Jurisdictions submitted by the delegation of Barbados; and a Statement of CELAC on Solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, submitted by the delegation of Venezuela.

The CELAC was formally established and ratified by the Declaration of the Unity Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean adopted at the Mayan Riviera, Mexico, on 23 February 2010; and comprises the thirty-three (33) member countries of the Latin American and Caribbean Region, of which The Bahamas is a member from the inaugural meeting in Mexico in 2010. The CELAC is a Community that seeks to foster political dialogue amongst its membership on a myriad of issues impacting the hemisphere; and to promote integration among regional, sub-regional and extra-regional actors.
