STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON THE OCCASION OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF BARBADOS

The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas wishes to congratulate the Government and people of Barbados on the 50th Anniversary of their Independence. The Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, and H.E. Picewell Forbes, High Commissioner to CARICOM, will represent The Bahamas at the official 50th Anniversary Celebrations, which will culminate at the Golden Anniversary Spectacular Mega Concert to be held at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on Wednesday 30 November. Barbados has achieved many milestones since they took the bold step to independence in 1966 and the observance of this Golden Jubilee provides an opportunity to reflect on their experiences towards nationhood and to continue to create opportunity for all of their people. The Ministry in expressing congratulations, wishes to convey best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of Barbados.
