THE BAHAMAS CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE IN WASHINGTON D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Mrs. Patricia Minnis, Spouse of the Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Dr. Hubert Minnis was the Keynote Speaker at an elegant Independence Reception hosted by the Embassy of The Bahamas in collaboration with the Embassy Consular Annex. The event which was held at the new InterContinental – The Wharf Hotel on Friday 12 July, 2019 had a nautical theme, and paid homage to the maritime culture of The Bahamas. His Excellency, Sidney Collie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mrs. Mavis Collie and Mr. Theo Neilly, Consul General welcomed guests from the diplomatic community and the Bahamian diaspora.

Mrs. Minnis also presented awards to five outstanding honourees for their contributions, dedication and service to The Bahamas in the D.C. area.  They recipients were, Mrs. Nesta Pathirana, Mr. Cameron Ferguson, Mrs. Dornell Watson-Dean, Mr. Peter J. Goulandris and Mr. Bernard Colebrooke.

Following the award presentation, guests enjoyed entertainment by Bahamian performer Lady E and Junkanoo by Baha-Nation, a Bahamian group based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
