High Commissioner to Ghana Attends Reparations Conference
Bahamas High Commissioner of Ghana, HE Andrew Wilson attended The African Union and the Government of the Republic of Ghana’s 4-day conference, from 14 – 17 November, 2023, concerning reparatory justice for crimes against humanity which stemmed from the transatlantic slave trade, colonization, and genocide. Delegates across the African Diaspora converged in Accra under the theme “Building a united front to advance the cause of justice & the payment of reparations to Africans”
Dr. Niambi Hall-Campbell Dean, Chairperson of the Bahamas National Reparations Committee participated as a panelist in the session focused on “Repartions as a Catalyst for Social Change”. Dr. Hall-Campbell Dean spoke to, among other things, the importance of processing pain in healthy ways, and dealing with and healing from traumatic events such as colonization and chattel slavery.
Participation in the conference represents the commitment of The Government of The Bahamas to the pursuit of reparatory justice through strengthening ties with Subsaharan African and Diaspora communities. Ambassador Wilson was accompanied by Kenneth C. Wallace Whitfield, Foreign Service Officer.
