The Bahamas and Malawi Establish Diplomatic Relations at CHOGM 2024

The Bahamas and Malawi launched a new era of bilateral cooperation today, formally establishing diplomatic ties at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), themed “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Commonwealth.”

This move underscores The Bahamas’ specific interest in strengthening ties with African nations, given the deep historical and cultural connections between the two regions.

Prime Minister Philip Davis and [Name of Malawi stakeholder] signed a joint communiqué, cementing the agreement. Recognizing the critical importance of sustainable development and the urgent need for climate action, especially for vulnerable populations, both countries committed to joint work on climate resilience strategies and to advocate for increased global support for developing nations.
This alliance will also facilitate increased South-South cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral fora, focusing on shared priorities such as peace and security initiatives and climate action.

The Bahamas and Malawi are eager to cooperate in multilateral forums to address global challenges and secure a more sustainable and peaceful future.
