CHOGM 2024: The Bahamas Expands Diplomatic Network with Republic of Togo Partnership

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Republic of Togo opened a promising new chapter in their relationship at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) with the formal establishment of diplomatic relations.

This initiative reflects The Bahamas’ dedication to enhancing relations with African nations, in recognition of the profound historical and cultural connections that unite the Caribbean and African continent.

Foreign Minister the Hon Frederick A Mitchell, representing The Bahamas, and the Hon, Robert Dussey, Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration, signed a joint agreement, signifying a mutual commitment to enhance bilateral relations and expand multilateral cooperation on areas of mutual interest, including peace and security initiatives and climate action.

Both countries will prioritize the establishment and development of South-South collaboration in both bilateral and multilateral fora.

This diplomatic undertaking reflects a shared ambition to address common development obstacles, champion the interests of developing nations worldwide, and honor the deep historical connections between The Bahamas and Africa.
