MOFA Hosts Joint Meeting with Bahamian, US Stakeholders on Immigration.

NASSAU- On 14th May, 2025 government stakeholders from the Ministry of Immigration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM); and the U.S. Embassy Bahamas convened a Joint Technical Meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, participants discussed a range of topics, related to maritime migration trends, interdiction, screening and other matters pertaining to policies and procedures. The discussion also covered U.S. support for capacity building and collaboration efforts through PRM-funded organizations, such as the International Organisation for Migration and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees as well as potential support via the regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights based in Nassau.

The Department of Immigration also facilitated a tour of the Carmichael Road Detention Centre for the PRM delegation, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to transparency and the continuous improvements of human rights protections.
