The Bahamas and China Sign Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreements
NASSAU, The Bahamas — October 14th 2025. The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the People’s Republic of China have recently signed three agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing The Bahamas’ national development goals.
The agreements were signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Honourable Frederick A. Mitchell, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to The Bahamas last week.
Through these agreements, China will provide grant funding in support of development projects identified and agreed upon by both Governments. The new framework builds upon decades of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and reaffirms their shared commitment to economic partnership, technical collaboration, and sustainable development.
Minister Mitchell noted that the signing reflects the continued strength of relations between The Bahamas and China, and the mutual desire to pursue initiatives that bring tangible benefits to the Bahamian people. He also expressed appreciation to Ambassador Yan and the Government of China for their ongoing support and partnership.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1997, The Bahamas and China have enjoyed close collaboration in areas such as infrastructure development, education, culture, and climate resilience. These new agreements mark another important step forward in advancing that cooperation under the framework of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
