The Bahamas Successful in IMO Reelection Bid

The Bahamas has won re-election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council Category C at the IMO Assembly at its 34th Session in London during the week of November 24-28, edging out 26 other candidates.

The Bahamas has served as a member of the Council since 1999, ranking consistently in the top ten registers and values its place on the Council immensely and remains dedicated to working collaboratively with the IMO Secretariat, fellow delegations, and other partners in the maritime industry to uphold the highest standards of maritime safety and security, environmental protection, and seafarer development and welfare.

Securing re-election to the IMO Council Category C will enable The Bahamas to further advocate for balanced global decision-making, especially on issues affecting Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Less Developed countries, LDCs, ships, seafarers, and the broader maritime community.

Ambassador Paul Rolle heads the team at the IMO as Permanent Representative and is assisted by Mr. Dwain Hutchinson, Managing Director for The Bahamas Maritime Authority, who serves as Alternate Permanent Representative.
