Presentation of Credentials by the Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Colombia

On 30 March 2026, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, led by Deputy Director General Ms. Gian Dean, welcomed Her Excellency Mrs. Emiliana Bernard Stephenson, Non-Resident Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Colombia, who paid an official visit to present her Letters of Credence.

Her Excellency, who is resident in Jamaica and specializes in Caribbean Studies, expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and her honour at being officially accredited to represent the Government of Colombia to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. She affirmed her commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering meaningful engagement between both countries in the near future.

Discussions between the two delegations underscored a shared commitment to deepen bilateral ties through enhanced technical cooperation and training in key sectors, including language learning, agriculture and tourism. Both sides recognized the importance of these areas in supporting sustainable development and economic resilience.

The meeting also highlighted a shared commitment to advancing climate change initiatives, which continue to be a key priority in the foreign policies of both The Bahamas and Colombia. Recognizing the significant impact of climate change on their respective nations, emphasis was placed on collaboration on climate resilience, preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and the adoption of innovative building techniques.

Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed The Bahamas’ interest in strengthening cooperation with Colombia and welcomed Ambassador Stephenson’s warm engagement.

The Ministry looks forward to continued engagement and the further development of diplomatic ties between the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Republic of Colombia.
