On Press Inquiries Regarding Bahamian Citizen Rescued Following Plane Crash

For Immediate Release – 19 May 2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware that a Bahamian citizen who survived the plane crash on 12 May 2026, and who was rescued by United States authorities, remains in custody in the United States.

The Ministry thanks the United States Coast Guard, the United States Air Force, and all relevant United States authorities for the professionalism shown in bringing those rescued to safety.

The Government of The Bahamas is cooperating fully with United States authorities through the appropriate diplomatic, consular, legal, and treaty channels.

The Ministry continues to seek consular access to the Bahamian citizen and will remain engaged with United States authorities on the matter.

Thus far the Bahamas Consul General has not been allowed access to the detainee.
