Press Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Death of Ms. Sophia Edgecombe, Chief Executive Officer, Passport Office, Freeport, Grand Bahama

It is with deep sadness that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, by extension, the Passport Office announce the death of Ms. Sophia Edgecombe, who was serving as the Chief Executive Officer at the Passport Office in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Ms. Edgecombe proved a competent, committed, and dedicated professional. She was a model public servant who went beyond the call of duty for 35 years at the Passport Office.

The general public and her colleagues were the beneficiaries of her determined drive for excellence to get the job done.

His Excellency, Ambassador Peter Symonette, Chief Passport Officer, notes that this devastating news of her death came yesterday, 11th August 2026, on the eve of a team out of New Providence led by Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister, Fred Mitchell and Minister of State for Immigration, Darron Pickstock, arriving on Grand Bahama today, 12th August 2026, to host a memorial service to honour the life of Retired Assistant Chief Officer, Freeport Passport Office, Mr. Ivan P.J. Deveaux, who died recently.

The Ministry extends condolences to Ms. Edgecombe’s family and loved ones and offer thanks for her devoted service to our country.
