Press Statement From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Attack on King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh

For Immediate Release
11th October 2026

The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas strongly condemns the
Houthi missile strike on 11th October 2026 on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The attack violates international law and threatens a renewed escalation of hostilities in the region.

The Bahamas stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We deplore the loss of innocent civilian lives, extend our sincere condolences to the families of those killed, and wish the injured a swift recovery.

Civilians and civilian infrastructure are protected under international law and must never be targeted. The Bahamas calls for an immediate cessation of attacks and for urgent de-escalation.

No Bahamian nationals have been reported injured at this time. The Ministry is in contact with Saudi officials. The Embassy of The Bahamas in Abu Dhabi has issued an updated travel advisory and is monitoring the situation. Bahamians in, or planning travel to, Saudi Arabia are urged to follow that advisory and the instructions of local authorities.

Out of an abundance of caution, the travel of the Bahamian delegation to the Inter-regional Preparatory Meeting of the International Telecommunication Union has been cancelled. The delegation comprised of His Excellency Leon Williams, as head of the delegation, Mr Stephen Bereaux, The Bahamas’ candidate, Mr Juan McCartney of the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA), and an officer of the Embassy of The Bahamas in Abu Dhabi.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Frederick A. Mitchell, has consulted the Chair of the CARICOM Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), the Hon. Melvin Bouva of Suriname, on a joint CARICOM response.
