On Hurricane Matthew for Students at Bethune-Cookman University (formerly College)

The following Statement is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Immigration of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in response to queries from parents and students regarding The Weather Channel’s report about students at Bethune-Cookman University (formerly College) of Daytona Beach, Florida being asked to leave the University in the approach of Hurricane Matthew.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration wishes to inform the public, and parents and students of Bethune-Cookman University Daytona Beach, Florida that notwithstanding the order to close the campus in the approach of Hurricane Matthew and for students to leave the campus, special dormitory facilities have been allocated for all Bahamian students who continue to be in residence at the University, and those Bahamian students off-campus have been directed to specific shelters for their safety during the passage of Hurricane Matthew. Furthermore, the Consul General in Miami is monitoring closely safety measures being taken by academic institutions within the jurisdiction.
