A Red Carpet Roll-Out for Sir Sidney
It was a night of cultural splendor fit for The Bahamas’ most famous son. To Sir Sidney, with Love, was the theme of a grand cultural show filled with dramatic art, and music. The nation’s top officials were in attendance.
Foreign Minister, The Honourable Frederick Mitchell gave a very personal memorial of not just the Academy Award winner and Diplomat known as Sir Sidney Poitier, but of a personal friend, and mentor who shaped the consciousness of a generation
The tributes poured in, from Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper and Leader of the Opposition Michael Pintard. All spoke with pride that The Bahamas lent the world the first man of colour to be nominated for and win an Academy Award.
Those who attended and watched the event live on national television would certainly agree that is was a night in which the red carpet was rolled out for our Sir, with love.
