Ambassador Dr. Dexter Johnson Seeks To Strengthens Diplomatic Relations with Brazil
Brasília, Brazil, 8 July 2026 — His Excellency Dr. Dexter Gregory Johnson, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the Federative Republic of Brazil, was received 8th July 2026 at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília, by His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Ambassador Johnson’s appointment reflects the continued strengthening of relations between The Bahamas and Brazil, which is marked by mutual respect, cooperation and shared commitment to sustainable development. The Bahamas values Brazil’s leadership in climate action, environmental conservation, food security, regional cooperation and multilateral engagement.
The Bahamas and Brazil continue to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas including climate resilience, technical cooperation, education, agriculture, trade and investment, tourism, maritime cooperation and sustainable development. This cooperation has been underscored by the recent signing of the Education Agreement between the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil in January 2025, and the Technical Cooperation Agreement in June 2025.
Additionally, Ambassador Johnson participated in a series of engagements with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. The engagements included presentations from officials responsible for economic and financial affairs; multilateral political affairs; trade promotion, science, technology, innovation and culture; climate, energy and environment; and technical cooperation. Discussions focused on areas of mutual interest and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between The Bahamas and Brazil.
Bilateral meetings were held with Director of the Department of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. They discussed the continued development of The Bahamas–Brazil relations and practical avenues for advancing cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Johnson is a dual-degree, Harvard-trained, board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and diplomat. He has served as an advocate for health diplomacy, education, mentorship and the strengthening of ties between The Bahamas and its international partners.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas looks forward to continued collaboration with the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil as both countries work to advance shared priorities and deepen bilateral relations.
