Ambassador Leslia Miller Brice accredited to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana

Her Excellency Leslia Miller-Brice, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, presented her Letters of Credence to His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of The Cooperative Republic of Guyana, on Monday, 16 May 2022, at the Office of the President in Georgetown, Guyana.

In her remarks, Ambassador Miller-Brice indicated that her Government is seeking ways to reduce its annual food import bill and her country’s overall expenditure by strengthening its agricultural sector, both through expanded production and increased capacity. She further stated that The Bahamas was looking forward to engaging in constructive discussions with the Government of Guyana to expand the country’s technological experience and knowledge-base in agricultural fields for food security, rural development and sustainable development, as well as more direct trade and investment with Guyana.

President Ali wished Ambassador Miller-Brice success in performing her duties and stated that, “The opportunity is therefore before us to craft a stronger partnership and a programme for bilateral collaboration and cooperation”.

President Ali also noted that the Government of Guyana was at present on an economic trajectory with the view to becoming the bread basket of the Caribbean, and was very interested in developing the said relationship with The Bahamas.

During her two-day visit to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Ambassador Miller-Brice and her delegation held discussions with the Hon. Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Honourable Charles S. Ramson MP, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, on matters of bilateral and current international concern

Also mentioned was that The Bahamas and Guyana were approaching their 50th anniversary of friendly bilateral relations, an occasion that should be recognized.
