AMBASSADOR NEWRY MEETS WITH NEW DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF CARIBBEAN AFFAIRS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — His Excellency Dr. Eugene G. Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, met with Mr. Brad Freden, Director, and Ms. Margy Bond, Deputy Director, of the Office of Caribbean Affairs of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.

The meeting served as an introduction between the parties and an opportunity to continue dialogue on areas of mutual interest to The Bahamas and the United States of America, including recovery efforts for Hurricane Matthew, consular matters relative to visa denials, corresponding banking and derisking, access to U.S. markets/trade and economic development, capacity building and technical cooperation, reconceptualization of indicators for development and development need, and security-related matters.

In attendance at the meeting from The Bahamas’ side were Mr. Chet Neymour, Deputy Chief of Mission; Ms. Krissy Hanna, Second Secretary, and Mr. Mikhail Bullard, Second Secretary. Mr. John Gorkowski, U.S. State Department’s Desk Officer for The Bahamas and Jamaica, was also present.
