Amendment to Passport Eligibility Registration

The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs advises the Public that after consultation with the Attorney General, the Honourable Foreign Minister has instructed the Passport Office to begin accepting applications of persons in the following category as of Monday, 26th June 2023:

Persons born in The Bahamas, where the applicant’s mother and father were not married at the date of the applicant’s birth, the mother is not a citizen of The Bahamas, the father is a citizen of The Bahamas, and his name appears on the applicant’s birth certificate.

The Ministry is working closely with the Office of the Attorney General and will further advise the public on any amendments or procedural changes regarding the issuance of travel documents as a result of the decision of the Privy Council to uphold the judgment made by the Supreme Court Chief Justice Ian Winder in 2020 in Shannon Tyreck Rolle and four others
