3rd October 2024, Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Government of the State of Kuwait and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. These relations were formalized on March 9, 1994, with the signing of the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the State of Kuwait, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Amir of Kuwait, and Mr. Hubert Ingraham, then Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
The initial Joint Communique laid the foundation for the relationship between the two nations, built on the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. It underscored a shared commitment to promoting peace, democracy, and justice in their bilateral relations.
In this Joint Communique Commemorating 30 years of Diplomatic Relations between the Government of the State of Kuwait and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, both Governments reaffirm their dedication to further strengthening mutual cooperation in areas of common interest. This includes an unwavering respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity, the promotion of international peace and security, and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of States. Both governments also commit to continuing their collaboration across all fields, both nationally and internationally.
In recent times, among the many successes of the respective States of Kuwait and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, special note is made of the State of Kuwait’s support for development through the role of the Kuwait Fund since 1961, and special note is made of The Bahamas’s excellence and leading commitment among Small Island Developing States in its advocacy, in particular environmental innovations and policy articulation, on Climate Change as an existential matter of global importance.
This Joint Communique Commemorating 30 years of Diplomatic Relations between the Government of the State of Kuwait and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas is issued on the 3rd of October 2024.
