CARICOM AMBASSADOR BRINGS REMARKS TO NATIONAL CONSULTATIONS ON REGIONAL GENDER POLICY
Her Excellency, the Honorable Leslia Miller-Brice, Bahamas Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), brought Opening Remarks on the occasion of the National Consultations on the draft CARICOM Regional Gender Equality Strategy (CRGES).
Ambassador Miller-Brice affirmed the commitment of The Bahamas to gender equality. She described the consultations as a clear indication of the dedication by Member States of CARICOM, including The Bahamas, to advancement on the crucial question of gender equality.
The national consultations on the CRGES were facilitated by Ms. Ann-Marie Williams, Gender and Development, CARICOM, in collaboration with the Department of Gender and Family Affairs, Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development. It was held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at The Breezes Resort Bahamas.
The CRGES provides a framework for gender mainstreaming. Gender mainstreaming is a strategy and a process to ensure that gender equality and the economic empowerment of women are an integral part of all national development policies, plans, and programs. The exercise offered the cross-section of national actors participating in the consultative process an occasion to make recommendations on the CRGES including, challenges and opportunities.
