Newly appointed European Union Ambassador to The Bahamas, Her Excellency Marianne Van Steen, paid a courtesy call today on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, the Hon. Fred Mitchell.
 
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, addressed matters of mutual interest, and highlighted various interests shared between the European Union and Caribbean states, such as economic development, climate change, and the strengthening of diplomatic dialogue that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Ambassador Van Steen also expressed her concerns about the ongoing crisis in Europe between Ukraine and Russia, and how important it was for Caribbean nations to play their part in support of the Ukrainian people. The Minister shared these concerns, especially in regard to the economic impact that the war was inflicting on the Caribbean region and globally.
 
The Minister reiterated that The Bahamas Government was doing all it could to support its allies in this effort.
