FEATURING THE HON. DARREN A. HENFIELD, M. P., MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
The Foreign Service Training Division (FSTD) hosted a special virtual Speaker’s Forum on Wednesday, 14th July, 2021, under the theme, “A Day in the Life of a Foreign Minister”, which featured the Hon. Darren A. Henfield, M. P., Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Reflecting on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Henfield spoke about his various work-related experiences in the diplomatic field, including the leadership role which he assumed, at the regional level, as Chair of the Council of Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), for the period May 2018 to May 2019. Minister Henfield also discussed the significance of The Bahamas’ diplomatic relations within the regional and international spheres, alluding to the need for continued networking and deepening of relationships for the promotion, pursuance and advancement of The Bahamas’ foreign policy agenda.
Minister Henfield highlighted the ongoing development of the Bahamian Foreign Service, acknowledging current efforts geared toward continued professional development and advancement of Officers. In a similar vein, Minister Henfield shared his desire for the establishment of a Foreign Service procedural manual, which would comprise specific information relative to The Bahamas’ foreign policy, as well as ministerial guidelines for the purposes of decision making, international discussions and negotiations.
The Forum served as a fruitful exchange between Minister Henfield and members of staff, including those currently stationed in the Ministry’s Missions abroad.
