Geneva Ambassador H.E. Patricia Hermanns Calls on ITU Secretary General

As is the custom for newly arrived Ambassadors in Geneva, HE Patricia A. Hermanns paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), on Monday, 27 June 2022.  The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICT’s).

The Bahamas was elected to the Council of the ITU for the period 2019-2023, and the Government of The Bahamas has decided to present its candidature for re-election to the Council of the International Telecommunication Union under Region A, from 26 September 2022 to 14 October 2022.

The Bahamas has demonstrated, throughout its many years of membership, a deep commitment to the values of the International Telecommunication Union. As a current member serving on the Administrative Council during the 2019-2023 term, The Bahamas recognises the importance of the constitutional functions conferred upon the Administrative Council and seeks to continue to contribute positively and substantively to its important work.

At present The Bahamas is the only CARICOM Member State serving as a member of the Council.  As such, during the meeting, the Secretary-General reiterated his support for the candidacy of The Bahamas for re-election to the Council.
