High-Commissioner Brice Raises The Flag for Independence Celebrations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Her. Excellency Leslia Miller-Brice, MP and The High Commissioner of The Bahamas to CARICOM kicked off the Independence Day festivities last Friday with a flag-raising ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in The Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre.

Flag-raising ceremonies took place at government offices across the country last Friday. 

At The Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.E. Miller-Brice, who serves as chair of The Bahamas Independence Day commission, Parliamentary Secretary Jamahl Strachan MP and His. Excellency Ron Pinder was all in attendance for the event.  

 Additionally, employees of the Ministry gathered at the building’s flag pole to raise the flag, sing the national anthem and recite the pledge of allegiance. 

Excited about the 49th  Independence Celebrations

H.E. Miller-Brice is excited about this year’s events, saying, “I’m delighted to bring early Independence greetings for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic”.

 H.E. Miller-Brice is proud to lead the first in-person independence events since 2019 adding:  “Bahamians will on the occasion of our 49th anniversary of Independence, in just under two weeks’ time, share in the traditional Independence celebrations in true Bahamian style and in-person”. 

She will also head the nation’s 50th  Independence Celebrations.

The Ministry of Foreign affairs is conducting events around the world commemorating Bahamian Independence during the month of July and people from across the Bahamian diaspora are invited to attend.

Events are underway in US cities including Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Washington DC. Bahamian foreign offices in Cuba, London, Ottawa and Geneva also host independence day celebrations.
