Minister Alfred Sears Meets with Caribbean and Chinese Leaders at China-CELAC Forum

Minister Alfred Sears of the Ministry of Immigration and National Insurance, attended the Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations meeting with China’s Foreign Minister the Honourable Wang Yi on 12th May, 2025 ahead of the 4th Ministerial China- CELAC Forum in Beijing, China.

The meeting centered around strengthening relations between The Bahamas and China, through continued cooperation in a wide range of sectors to build and sustain economic development. The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to the One China Policy, a significant pillar in China-CELAC relations.

The Chinese government expressed appreciation for the strong support received from the countries in the Caribbean for their stand on continued cooperation with China, and maintaining their independence from the influences of third countries.

China pledges to support the continued advanced development of the small island states of the Caribbean. The Bahamas looks forward to closer collaboration with the China International Development Cooperation Agency on Global Development Initiative projects.
