Minister Mitchell and Top Ministry Officials Meet With Leading International Foreign Debt & Human Rights Experts

Foreign Minister The Honourable Frederick A. Mitchell, M.P., and Parliamentary Secretary Jamahl Strachan, M.P. met with Attiya Waris Independent Expert (IE) on the effects of foreign debt, other international financial obligations and human rights accompanied by Ms. María Muñoz Maraver Human Rights Officer.
Other officials in attendance included: Permanent Secretary Eugene Poitier; Director-General Ambassador Jerusa Ali; Deputy Director-General Keva Bain; First Assistant Secretary Charmaine Williams, Head of the Economic, Trade and Sustainable Development Division; Administrative Consultant Lorraine Bastian; Foreign Service Officer Latoya Graham and Foreign Service Officer Alanis Ingraham.
Topics discussed during the meeting included: the Independent Expert’s visit thus far, climate change, carbon credits, a global tax body, the impact of domestic economic and financial policies on human rights, the expansion of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in The Bahamas and areas for development.
