Minister Mitchell Leads the Bahamian Delegation at Japan-CARICOM Conference

Foreign Minister the Hon. Frederick A. Mitchell attended the Eith Japan-CARICOM Ministerial Level Conference last week in Tokyo, Japan.

Hosted by Japan’s Foreign Minister, HE Iwaya Takeshi, the conference brings CARICOM Ministers like Minister Mitchell, face-to-face leading figures in Japan’s government, politics, academia, and business communities.

At the conference’s opening ceremony, held on 12 December at the Iikura Guest House in Tokyo, Minister Iwaya expressed great pleasure in hosting the ceremony in Japan for the first time in a decade. He also expressed that while the West Indies are far from Japan geographically, the strategic partnerships Japan enjoys with Caribbean countries are of the utmost importance.

On December 12, at the Iikura Guest House, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, hosted a reception ahead of the Eighth Japan-CARICOM Ministerial-Level Conference, which began on December 14. The reception was attended by approximately 100 people, including the foreign ministers and other high-level officials from 14 member states that comprise the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) who are currently visiting Japan, as well as distinguished guests from politics, economy and academia of Japan and the CARICOM countries.
