Minister Mitchell meets with the Secretary of State of the Holy See
Meeting Between Honourable Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin
Rome, Italy 23 January 2026
The Honourable Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Bahamas, and His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, met yesterday, Thursday 23rd January, for a constructive exchange of views on issues of shared concern, including climate change, peace and security, and sustainable development, with particular attention to their impact on the human condition.
Also joining the meeting were Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Director General and Ambassador Joseph Curry, non-resident Ambassador to the Holy See.
They discussed current geopolitical challenges and expressed support for the people of Haiti, Cuba, and Venezuela, where there is an urgent need for consistent and sustained support. Their discussions underscored the moral and social responsibilities of the international community, highlighting the importance of pastoral care for affected populations and the protection of human dignity, especially for the most vulnerable. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation through diplomacy and multilateralism as essential means for addressing global challenges, fostering dialogue, and delivering sustainable and peaceful solutions in the service of the common good.
