H.E. Chet Donovan Neymour presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS) to Secretary General of the OAS, H.E. Luis Almagro, on 18th March, 2022, during a ceremony held in the Hall of Heroes at the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC.
Most recently having been appointed as Ambassador/Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the United Nations, Ambassador Neymour has extensive Bahamian public service and diplomatic experience. Within the Bahamian public service, he has served as Deputy Director of Economic Planning with oversight of the Multilateral/International Financial Institutions Sections in the Ministry of Finance and as the founding Secretary to what is now the Securities Commission of The Bahamas.
His expansive international and multilateral experience includes his employment in the Secretariat of the OAS in Washington D.C., with appointments as Special Envoy, Ombudsperson a.i., Advisor in the Office of the Secretary General and Director of Procurement, respectively.
In his remarks, Ambassador Neymour, referencing his prior experiences with the OAS, highlighted that assuming post as The Bahamas’ chief emissary to the OAS was a “full circle moment”, underscored the importance of the OAS’s development work for The Bahamas and outlined key priority areas for the Permanent Mission of The Bahamas’ engagement with the OAS including: “climate action and implementation, including development finance reform, irregular migration, hemispheric security (including cyber security and citizen security) and knowledge and technology transfer in critical areas.”

Ambassador Neymour implored that “global and hemispheric events compels us as Member States to revisit and reform the mechanisms to enable and give profound effect to the OAS Charter and the Inter- American Democratic Charter and institute relevant approaches that can tangibly and realistically advance our democratic and human rights norms.”

Ambassador Neymour further informed that during his tenure “The Bahamas will advocate for a fairer and more effective fiscal governance in the Organization towards a revised administrative and financial architecture as Member States continue the examinations of our quota system, mandate prioritization and mechanisms for resource utilization and mobilization.”
Today’s ceremony finalizes the official process of accreditation for Ambassador/Permanent Representative Neymour.
