On The Passing of Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, Former Prime Minister of Barbados

It is with a sense of deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, who served as Prime Minister of Barbados from 1987 to 1993 and later on as the country’s first resident Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China from 2010 to 2013.

Sir Lloyd served the people of Barbados for over three decades as an esteemed Statesman and Diplomat. Among his many Ministerial portfolios, he served as the Education Minister before becoming Prime Minister. As Prime Minister, He worked closely with The Bahamas and our CARICOM partners to ensure we achieved our collective regional goals.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, heartfelt condolences are extended to Prime Minister Hon. Mia Mottley, S.C., M.P., his wife, Lady Angelita Sandiford, his son Garth, his daughter Inga, his extended family and the wider Barbadian community.
