Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jamahl Strachan, MP, Addresses the Conference of the African Diaspora in the Americas, Bahia, Brazil

From August 29 – 31, 2024, The city of Salvador in Bahia, Brazil, hosted the Preparatory Conference of the African Diaspora. This conference was one of the largest gatherings of persons of African descent outside the African continent, representing various governments throughout the Americas (North, Central, South America and the Caribbean) and Africa.

Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Jamahl Strachan, MP, addressed the ministerial segment of the conference as the youngest head of delegation and reaffirmed the support of The Bahamas in seeking reparatory justice, in-line with the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM’s) Ten Point Plan of Action. He emphasized the interconnectedness of the African diaspora’s past, present and future, and stated that The Bahamas remains committed to advancing a common vision of empowerment, equality and justice for all.

This conference was held under the theme “Memory, restitution, reparation and reconstruction” and was organized by the African Union (AU) in partnership with the Governments of Brazil and Togo as a one of a series of preparatory conferences in the lead up to the historic 9th Pan-African Congress, which is scheduled to take place in Lomé, Togo, from October 29 – November 2, 2024.
