Press Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Bahamas’ Commitment to Peace and Security in Haiti.

The Bahamas today, 30th August 2026 reaffirmed its commitment to security in Haiti during engagements with the leadership of the UN Gang Suppression Force in Port-au-Prince.

The Bahamian delegation was led by Director General, Ambassador Jerusa Ali and included Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Commander Julian Smith of the Bahamas Embassy in Haiti, Defence Attaché Chapell Whyms, Commander Edward Fritz, Chief Petty Officer Sherwin Scavella and Petty Officer Javier Forbes of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

The delegation was received by Deputy Force Commander, Brigadier General Elon Clarke of the Jamaican Defence Force, Colonel Uyangasiakhan, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, of Mongolia and Colonel Mahamat Chahata Ali, Commanding Officer of the Chadian Contingent, together with senior members of the GSF command.

Discussions centered on the restoration of freedom of movement, the resumption of commercial activity, and the strengthening of Haitian institutions — the practical measures by which ordinary life resumes.

The Bahamian delegation highlighted the value of close co-ordination between contributing partners and Haitian authorities, and reaffirmed its position as an active member of the GSF Standing Group of Partners.

The Bahamas remains committed to a Haitian-led, Haitian-owned path to stability and will continue to advocate that a safer Haiti is a safer Bahamas and a safer region.
