Remaining Staff Evacuated from Embassy in Haiti

23 March 2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to advise the public that the three (3) remaining members of the diplomatic staff posted at the Embassy of The Bahamas in Haiti have been evacuated and will return to the capital for consultations.

Charge d’ Affairs at the Embassy, Captain Godfrey Rolle, along with two (2) other officers will continue to monitor the ongoing situation in Port au Prince while working remotely from Nassau.

The decision to evacuate was based on the deterioration of the security situation in Port au Prince. There is not and has not previously been any indication that the Embassy or its personnel have been targeted in any way.

The public should note that the government of The Bahamas is committed to a continued diplomatic presence in Haiti when conditions permit and as the necessities dictate.

The Bahamas remains deeply committed to supporting the Haitian people during this political transition period.
