On the Passing of Former Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, Dr Richard Bernal

It is with a sense of deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of Ambassador Dr Richard Bernal, who served as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), positions he held for over ten years between May 6, 1991, and August 31, 2001.

Ambassador Bernal is known for his comprehensive understanding of international economic policy and economic development as they affect small-island developing states within CARICOM (Caribbean Community). His distinguished diplomacy will be long remembered by many.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, heartfelt condolences are extended to Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the wider Jamaican community on the passing of Ambassador Bernal and to his family and friends.
