Senator Barry Griffin Leads Bahamian Delegation at 64th OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly
The Honourable Barry N. Griffin, Vice President of the Senate and Deputy Chairman of The Bahamas Trade Commission led The Bahamas’ delegation at the 64th Session of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly and First Session of the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, being held in Luanda, Angola from 17th-21st February 2024.
On Saturday 17th February, 2024, Senator Griffin during the first meeting of the Caribbean Regional Assembly was unanimously elected to serve as Vice President of the Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly. In his new designation, Senator Griffin will work alongside Caribbean Parliamentary Representatives to ensure that the Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly and the Caribbean Regional Assembly are effective in their mandate to implement the Samoa Agreement and guide the relationship between the Caribbean and European Union.
The new body that Senator Griffin has been elected to help lead is a new representative structure under the Samoa Agreement, the new overarching guide for the EU’s relations with African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. The Bahamas signed the Samoa Agreement on 18th January, 2024.
