CARIBBEAN-CANADA Emerging Leaders’ Dialogues Call for Applications
CHINA The Government of the People’s Republic of China has invited Bahamian nationals to submit applications to become 2019/2020 recipients of scholarships at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral levels to study or continue studies in the People’s Republic of China.

APPLICATION CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
• Bahamian National with a valid electronic passport
• In Good Health
• Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above
• Willing to study in Mandarin at any University, if chosen by the Chinese Government
• Applications for the Bachelor’s Degree should be 25 years or younger
• Applicants for the Master’s Degree should be under the age of 40
• Applicants for the Doctoral Degree should be under the age of 45

All interested persons may complete the scholarship application form online at: http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina

Three (3) preferences of Chinese Universities must be included in the application form. You may visit the following website to facilitate your search for a Chinese University: www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina and http://www.cucas.edu.cn

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS:

• Copy of completed Online application form
• Copy of relevant passport pages
• Copy of US visitors/transit visa (if available)
• 3 passport photo
• Statement of Purpose/Study or Research Plan (1,000-1,500 words)
• Physical examination form with attached copies of all lab results (see link for physical examination form)

• Three (3) letters of recommendation (teachers/lecturers and community leaders)
• Copy of high school and/or university diploma
• Official transcript mailed directly from high school/university
• Applicants for music studies and fine arts must submit a CD of their own work. Fine arts submission should include two (2) sketches, two (2) color paintings and two (2) other works

APPLICATION INSRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Log on to http://csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click “Scholarship Application for Students” to register for a username and password before logging on.

STEP 2: Log in with your username and password. For a new user , please click “Create an account” for registration. After logging on to the system, please read the “ONLINE APPLICATION GUIDANCE” and follow the steps

STEP 3: Click the “NEXT” and select the scholarship you want to apply for. (Please select the Chinese Government Scholarship, unless you are applying for the other Cooperation Programme Scholarship)

STEP 4: Fill in the correct Program Category and Agency Number. Please note that the “AGENCY NO.” is one of the most crucial parts of your online application. It is listed in the first blank under the “PERSONAL DATA”. Please make sure that you fill it in correctly, otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application. Your “Program Category” is: TYPE A and your “AGENCY NO.” is 0441.
STEP 5: Please fill in the online application form truthfully, correctly and completely following the steps listed on the left of the page. Applicants are required to select the disciplines before choosing their majors. For inquiries about the disciplines and majors, please refer to the “Disciplines Index”, which can be downloaded from “HELP”.

STEP 6: Preview the application form after completion, and submit it online. The submitted documents be the only reference for the applied universities to confirm the admission.

STEP 7: You can make changes to your application by clicking Withdraw and Edit the Application on the top of the page. But make sure you resubmit by clicking Submit after finishing all of the changes. Otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid.

STEP 8: Please download and print the finished application form by clicking the “PRINT THE APPLICATION FORM”.

STEP 9: Please prepare other supporting documents as required, and submit the full package of application documents to Ms. Meryl Deveaux, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Technical Assistance Division, 1st Floor, Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre, West Bay Street, Nassau, The Bahamas.

ITALY The University of Verona is looking for 14 PhD candidates within the EU-funded project INVITE. The call for proposals officially opens on 15 January 2018 and closes on 16 April 2018 at 2 pm

INVITE is a doctoral programme of the University of Verona with a strong inter-sectoral, interdisciplinary and international dimension. The project is co-financed by the European Union within the Horizon 2020 Programme and by the Regione del Veneto. It involves as partner organisations 17 universities and research centres in Europe and beyond, 13 enterprises and organisations from the economic sector, 3 public organisations and 1 network of technology transfer offices.

INVITE offers a total of 14 PhD positions to train early-stage researchers in scientific disciplines within the following four main scientific domains:

  • Arts and Humanities.
  • Legal and Economic Sciences.
  • Health and Life Sciences.
  • Natural and Engineering Sciences.

INVITE is open to early-stage researchers of any age and nationality. Few restrictions apply to candidates:

  • They must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline.
  • They must hold a Master’s Degree (Master of Science or Master of Arts) or similar degree equivalent to the Italian Laurea Magistrale / Specialistica that, in their country of origin, grants access to PhD programmes.
  • They must not already hold a PhD and must have less than 4 years (full-time equivalent) of research experience.
