3rd, October 2016, Ottawa – The Bahamas High Commission in Ottawa is pleased to advise that the governments of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and of the Republic of Turkey signed an Air Service Agreement today at the Headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada. The High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to Canada, and Permanent Representative to ICAO, His Excellency Dr. Calsey Johnson signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of The Bahamas, and the Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication, Mr. Orhan Birdal signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Turkey. The signing of this Agreement marks an historic event for The Bahamas, as it is the very first time in its history that The Bahamas has signed such an agreement. An Air Service Agreement (ASA), also known as an Air Transport Agreement (ATA) is an agreement which countries sign to allow international commercial air transport services for passengers, cargo and mail between their territories. The event was witnessed by officials from The Bahamas and from Turkey who are in Montreal attending the 39th Assembly of ICAO.
