Statement from Minister the Hon Frederick A Mitchell, MP on The Deployment of Bahamian Personnel to Haiti

A number of inquiries have been made by the press about reported troop deployment of Bahamian marines to Haiti. This is not new. This report is simply confirming what is already in the public domain and contained in the previous statement to the country by the Foreign Minister that the command team of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) will join the command structure in Haiti as part of a Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM). There is no deviation from the maritime mission as was previously announced. The Bahamas will join colleagues from Kenya, Jamaica, and Belize to work in close cooperation with the Haitian National Police (HNP) to restore security in Haiti.
