The Bahamas and China Discusses Military Exchange Cooperation

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nassau, Bahamas – The Ministry of National Security and Royal Bahamas Defence Force held discussions with representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Nassau to discuss military exchange and cooperation opportunities beneficial to The Bahamas.

The discussions highlighted upcoming seminars in the People’s Republic of China targeted to military representatives from the Caribbean and Latin American countries, while also raising concerns on regional and international crises; efforts to push forward peaceful outcomes; the continued respect for human rights; and the realization of sustainable development goals.

The Bahamas’ side expressed its commitment to peace efforts in the region and called on the Chinese side to provide assistance where appropriate, to further expedite the cause. In response, the Chinese side indicated that it would be willing to exchange views on these matters, as it is among China’s main priorities.

Both sides will continue dialogue on further enhancing military exchange and cooperative activities between The Bahamas and China, as the two countries continue to deepen its friendly relations.

The meeting was attended by the Acting Minister of National Security, the Honourable Leon Lundy; Commodore Raymond King and senior officials from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force; the Acting Permanent Secretary Bridgette Hepburn and senior staff from the Ministry of National Security; Director General Jerusa Ali and staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
