The Bahamas-Botswana State Visit Aims to Strengthen Diplomatic, Economic Partnerships and Trade and Investment Ties
Foreign Minister, the Hon. Frederick A. Mitchell M.P., part of the Historical State visit by Prime Minister Davis on the invitation of HE President Mokgweetsi Masisi, engaged in a round of high-level bilateral discussion with the Hon. Pono Moatlhodi, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and the Hon. Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs, focused on furthering diplomatic relationship and mutual cooperative technical agreements between The Bahamas and Botswana.
Foreign Minister Mitchell and technical officials of the foreign ministry observed Botswana’s Parliament in session. They toured the traditional Ntlo ya Dikgosi (Tswana for “House of Chiefs”), an advisory body to Botswana’s Parliament. Foreign Minister Mitchell met with the Hon. Baratiwa Mathoothe, Acting Leader of the Opposition on the steps of Parliament.
Foreign Minister Mitchell, delivered a keynote lecture on International Relations at the Botswana Defence Force Staff College, underscoring the importance of international relations between government and the private sector in revitalizing the economy for all countries, including The Bahamas post-pandemic. Minister Mitchell’s visit to the Botswana Defence Force sparked a discussion with Colonel Dumisane Ndzinge, Acting Commandant of the Botswana Defence Force, about opportunities for Master Level scholarships and senior ranking training opportunities for The Bahamas Royal Bahamian Defence Force.
Foreign Minister Mitchell noted that the state visit is a success in furthering the interests of The Bahamas, our existing multilateral partnerships and new African regional partnerships, the opportunity to enhance our armed forces, and opening new markets for our orange and green economies while laying the foundation for trade and investment to emerge.
