The Bahamas Celebrates 30 Years of Diplomatic Relations with The State of Kuwait
8th April 2024
In the spirit of observing the 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the State of Kuwait, His Excellency Tareq M. A. Al-Banai, Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and non-resident Ambassador to The Bahamas along with His Excellency Taran S. Mackey, Bahamian non-resident Ambassador to the State of Kuwait jointly sponsored an Iftar at the Carmichael Road Mosque Friday evening.
Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Bahamas, said, “Cultural diplomacy is a very important aspect of relations with states and religious communities. Iftar (breaking fast) meals are an opportunity for family, friends, colleagues and strangers to come together for nourishment and spiritual reflection. On 9th March 1994, The Bahamas and Kuwait formally established diplomatic relations. Over the past 30 years, bilateral cooperation and friendship between the State of Kuwait and The Bahamas have been strengthened by activities such as tonight’s Iftar. We have demonstrated that diplomacy is not just handshakes and formal agreements. Rather, diplomacy is about joining together people and communities with shared values and principles”.
The event was attended by individuals and families estimated at one hundred people and the meal was catered by a local Bahamian halal restaurant. The Holy Month of Ramadan (fasting) follows the Lunar calendar and this year spans from 10th March to 10th April (or when the new moon is sighted indicating the start of a new month). At the end of Ramadan, families and communities celebrate Eid ul Fitr (Festival of the Feast) with social gatherings and meals.
