   The Bahamas participates in the Forty-Ninth Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)

Council of Ministers

Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service Honourable Frederick Mitchell participated in the Forty-Ninth Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council of Ministers on 27 May 2022 in Georgetown, Guyana.

Foreign Service Officer within the CARICOM Affairs Division, Mr. Antonio V. Butler Jr. also attended alongside the Minister.

Key matters discussed were the Forty-Third Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government scheduled to be held from 4 – 5 July, 2022 in Paramaribo, Suriname, the review of the Caribbean Community Institutions and preparations for the observance of the upcoming Fiftieth Anniversary of the establishment of the Caribbean Community and the Fiftieth Independence Anniversary of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas; both to be celebrated in 2023.

The Government of The Bahamas will assume the Chairmanship of the Conference of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) from 1 January 2023 – 30 June 2023 and will host the Thirty-Fourth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference in February 2023.

The Community Council of Ministers is the second highest organ to Heads of Government and of State, and is responsible for CARICOM’s strategic planning and coordination in economic integration, functional cooperation and external relations.
