The Bahamas Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Cooperation at Brazil–Caribbean Summit
Brasilia, 13 June 2025 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the successful participation of The Bahamas in the Brazil–Caribbean Summit, led by the Honourable Prime Minister Philip Davis and accompanied by Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Director General of the Foreign Ministry.
The event provided an important platform for advancing shared priorities, with special emphasis on deepening collaboration through CELAC and other regional financial institutions, as well as supporting sustainable development, and maintaining Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
The Government of The Bahamas extends its gratitude to the Government of Brazil for its leadership in convening this high-level meeting and for its ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue and partnership throughout the region.
The Summit concluded with the adoption of a comprehensive Joint Communiqué, underscoring the collective resolve of regional leaders to strengthen integration, advance multilateralism, and pursue practical cooperation on critical issues including food security, climate change, disaster risk management, energy transition, and connectivity.
A senior officials’ meeting on Haiti was held on the margins of the Summit, reflecting the region’s resolve to supporting the Republic of Haiti in the midst of the ongoing multidimensional security crisis. The Bahamas reiterated its backing for the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, led by Kenya, in its assistance to the Haitian National Police (HNP).
In addition, Prime Minister Philip Davis promoted The Bahamas’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2032–2033, affirming the country’s dedication to principled diplomacy, small state advocacy, and effective multilateral action and Security Council reform.
The Ministry remains committed to advancing the interests of The Bahamas through strategic and sustained regional cooperation.
