The Bahamas Welcomes Brazil’s Foreign Minister

Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas. Foreign Minister the Hon. Frederick A Mitchell had the pleasure of welcoming The Hon. Mauro Vieira, Foreign Minister of Brazil to an official visit to The Bahamas.
Accompanied by HE Claudio Lins, Brazil’s Ambassador to The Bahamas, Minister Vieira paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis, Minister Mitchell, Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Jamahl Strachan, Permanent Secretary Mr. Melvin Seymour and Director General HE Jerusa Ali and senior Ministry officials at the Office of the Prime Minister where the Brazil-Bahamas Educational-Cooperation Agreement was signed. This important agreement will encourage The Bahamas and Brazil to cooperate in education and scientific knowledge, the training of education professionals, among other invaluable initiatives for both countries in the academic and educational domains.
The two parties also outlined important matters of discussion, including deepening educational and cultural exchanges and continuing to cooperate on global climate change initiatives. Members of the Bahamian Delegation also highlighted their eagerness to participate in the first CARICOM- Brazil summit, scheduled for later this year, while pledging to support Brazil’s bid to host COP 30, also scheduled for later this year.
Following the meeting, Minister Mitchell, Minister Vieira, and Ministry leadership headed to the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas where they were given a tour by Mrs. Maelynn Ford, Gallery Director, and and a lunch was held in the Minster’s Honor.
Minister Vieira then headed to Lynden Pindling International Airport where he was seen off by Ministry Protocol Staff.
Brazil is a key partner to The Bahamas on several matters including climate change, investment, and education, being one of only five countries with a resident embassy in The Bahamas.
Minister Viera’s visit to The Bahamas underscores the Bahamas’ willingness to cultivate and deepen ties with regional partners on issues central to our country’s wellbeing including education, and climate change.
