The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Participates in UB Visit to Ghanaian Universities
March 20, 2024
Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas – A delegation from the University of The Bahamas (UB) North Campus recently embarked on a transformative journey to Ghana, fostering collaborative partnerships with four prestigious universities in the West African nation. Led by H.E. Dr Michael Pateman, Ambassador at Large for History, Culture, and Museology, alongside Dr Andrew Moxey, Dean of Faculty at UB North, the delegation engaged in discussions centred on enhancing relationships, developing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), and fostering faculty and student exchanges.
The delegation’s engagements ranged from exploring joint research initiatives to discussing exchange programmes allowing students and faculty members to immerse themselves in diverse academic environments. The envisioned collaborations encompassed areas such as Business, Environmental and Climate Sciences, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies and included institutions such as Takoradi Technical University, the University of Cape Coast, Ashesi University, and the University of Ghana.
The visit assisted further in the deepening of the relationship between The Bahamas and Ghana. In 2023, UB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Cape Coast, laying the groundwork for enhanced academic cooperation. The Bahamas and Ghana also signed a visa waiver agreement in 2023, which eases travel between nationals of both States. Additionally, A sister city agreement was signed between Nassau and Ahanta West, fostering closer ties based on the research of Christopher Davis, coronated as Nana Safohene Jan Kwaw (John Canoe) II. The Bahamas appointed its first High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Andrew Wilson, signalling a commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations.
