Travel Health Advisory for the Republic of Cuba

15 December, 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises all Bahamian nationals travelling to or residing in the Republic of Cuba that there is an ongoing outbreak of mosquito-borne viruses, namely dengue and chikungunya. These illnesses are transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes and may present with symptoms including fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, joint swelling, nausea, and rash. While most people recover, severe illness may occur, particularly among newborns, older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying medical conditions.

Travellers are urged to take enhanced precautions, including the use of insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and staying in well-screened or air-conditioned accommodation, and to seek prompt medical attention if symptoms develop while in Cuba or after returning to The Bahamas.

Should you require consular assistance while in Cuba, Bahamian nationals are advised to contact the Embassy of The Bahamas in Havana, Cuba:
